Ready to Adopt? Here’s how it works

Welcoming a FuRRR cat into your home is an exciting step, and we’re here to help you find the perfect match. Our adoption process is designed to be friendly, supportive, and thorough — ensuring every cat and every family begins their new life together on the right paw.

We take the time to get to know our adopters because our goal is simple: happy families, happy cats, and lifelong homes.

Before You Apply

  • Our process is thoughtful, but submitting an application doesn’t guarantee approval.
  • We typically respond within 3 business days (often sooner!)
  • Please complete all fields so we can review your application without delays
  • Applicants must be 21 or older to adopt

📩 Important: After submitting your application, check your Junk/Spam folder if you haven’t received a response by the next day. Emails come from adoption@furrr.org.

Special Note About Kittens (1 Year or Younger)

Kittens grow up happier and better adjusted with a playmate. For their well‑being, kittens under a year old need to go home with another playful kitty — either a bonded buddy here or a young cat already in your home. You can read more about why pairing is so important in this short article.

Step 1: Submit Your Adoption Application

Start by filling out our quick adoption application. This helps us get to know you, your home, and what kind of kitty will thrive with your family. The more complete your answers, the faster we can match you with the right cat.

Once submitted, we’ll review your application and reach out — usually within 3 business days, often sooner.

Step 2: Vet Check

Next, we’ll connect with your veterinarian. This helps us confirm that any current or past pets have received regular care and are up to date on vaccines. For homes with existing cats, we also look for spay/neuter status — it’s an important part of keeping everyone healthy and preventing stress or territorial issues.

Please notify your vet that we may be calling. Many clinics need your approval before sharing records, and this helps us complete your review faster.

Step 3: Share a Few Home Photos

To help us get to know your space, we’ll ask for a few quick photos of your home. This isn’t an inspection — it simply helps us make sure your new kitty will have a safe, comfortable place to settle in.

  • If you rent: We’ll contact your landlord to confirm that pets are allowed.
  • If you live with parents: A parent just needs to send a quick email giving permission to adoption@furrr.org.

Step 4: Meet Your Match

Once your application is approved, we’ll help you schedule a meet‑and‑greet with your chosen kitty. This is your chance to spend time together, ask questions, and make sure it feels like the perfect fit. Our volunteers will coordinate a time that works for everyone so you can enjoy a relaxed, stress‑free visit.

Step 5: Adoption Day

It’s time to bring your new family member home! On adoption day, we’ll review your kitty’s history, answer any last questions, and make sure you feel fully prepared for the transition home.

Please bring a secure cat carrier — it helps your new friend travel safely and start their journey with comfort and confidence.

Thank you for choosing adoption.

Every time a FuRRR cat finds a loving home, it opens space for us to rescue another in need. Your decision truly makes a difference.

Our team is here to support you through every step — from choosing your kitty to settling in at home. We’re excited to help you welcome your new family member and start this wonderful journey together.
